July Wishlist

I know I say it every month but HOW is it July already?! This year is running away with me. So much that I forgot to share my June Wishlist with you. Oops! I’d like to say it’s because my social calendar has been jam packed but that would be a massive lie. So this month, with summer in full swing I thought I’d share more of what I have bought and will be buying in the lead up to my holiday which is now less than two months away. Still feels like a lifetime away however.

Starting with beauty I have decided to invest in a couple of hair masks that came highly recommended to me. I have been bleaching my hair since I was about 16 and it’s finally taking its toll. Breakage is rife and I now have unwanted layers YAY. The two treatments are ‘Olaplex 3’ and the ‘Kerastase resistance masque force Architecte’.

I am not expert on this subject so please don’t quote me but I have read that ‘It’s a system that rebuilds the damaged bonds in your hair that are broken during the chemical process. If you’ve been highlighting your hair for years, Olaplex allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of your hair.’ Kim Kardashian swears by it and if it’s good enough for her it’s good enough for me.

The Kerastase mask again strengthens and fortifies hair to reduce breakage, so I thought that these two masks combined should work wonders. Lets pray! Perhaps i’ll do a mini follow up blog on how I get on with these products.

Onto the next. I decided to keep my summer wardrobe fairly neutral this year so in order to add a pop of colour I plan to invest in a quality red lipstick. On trying several different brands I settled for Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Pur Couture’ in ‘Le Rouge’. It’s long lasting and the pigment is amazing. With an SPF 15 moisturising formula it protects your lips and keeps them looking nourished. It’s fairly expensive at £28 but for the quality I can justify it.

Finally, on the subject of beauty I will without a doubt be buying the Bobbi Brown highlighting powder in ‘Bronze Glow’. Oh my goodness!! This product creates such an amazing glow perfect for this sunny weather we’ve been blessed with. It’s high impact light reflective powder catches the light and makes the your cheek bones pop! I’ve been trying to wear less face make up now that I have caught the sun a little and am embracing my freckles this year, so this highlighter with a little concealer, pot rouge and smokey eye mascara should be all I need (I hope).

Okay so onto fashion. I’ve really annoyingly shrunk my Breton stripe T shirt dress in the wash. It was such a good staple to throw on at this time of year. I’d literally wear it to work, round the pool, out to lunch you name it. Anyway i’m on a mission to replace it. The one I shrunk was cheap and cheerful from H&M (possibly why it shrunk), but since I got so much use of it I’m willing to spend a little more money on one. At the moment I have my eye on this dress from Joules. With AW18 fashion slowly creeping into shops i’m secretly hoping it’ll drop into the sale.

On the theme of Summer dresses this is another beauty that I’ve been lusting over. I am seriously lacking in the summer dress department which became evident when I discovered I had NOTHING to wear for work. I think this style is perfect for the time of year too. It’s pretty embroidery makes it particularly attractive and the light weight smock style makes it appealing for the hotter days. You also can’t beat a loose dress for your holiday where you’re inevitably going to be stuffing your face ha!

Last but not least, tan sandals! Just when I thought I didn’t need anymore sandals I came across these bad boys. Once again I think they’d make a great summer staple and would go so well with my neutral summer wardrobe. I find this style so easy to throw on and also really comfortable (providing the leather is soft).

So there it is. I’m back on track and at the beginning of the month too! I’ll be sure to update you with my August wish list in the next few weeks and perhaps by then i’ll be starting to consider my A/W wardrobe.

Enjoy and as always, HAPPY SUNDAY!

How to Hygge during Summer

I have this thing for Hygge, hence the name of my blog. I think it’s such a cool concept and to describe it in a nutshell it’s about surrounding yourself with the people you love and creating an atmosphere that makes you feel at home, safe and just generally content. When I think of Hygge I tend to associate it with Autumn/Winter when you get the house feeling all cosy and start incorporating winter warmers back into you diet. However, Hygge is not just for Christmas, so i’m here to help you Hygge in summer!

There are five dimensions to Hygge and these are:

  • Taste
  • Smell
  • Sound
  • Feel
  • Seeing

So picture this. The Sun is beaming, you’re lay on your sun lounger with a Pimms in hand, you’ve smothered yourself in suncream (safety first) and the BBQ has just been fired up ready for dinner with the family. The smell of the suncream immediately takes you back to your most recent holiday, the feeling of the sun warming your skin, the fruity/spicy taste of your cold Pimms and the sound of the BBQ coals crackling is Hygge at it’s finest. I’m in heaven just writing this.

Togetherness is another big part of Hygge. For my sisters birthday this year we’ve decided to host a little garden party (weather permitting) inviting some of our closest friends. I intend on making the garden looking really pretty and welcoming for all of our guests. In order to do this I will be doing the following.

  • Filling old jam jars with tea lights/flowers and hanging them in trees round the garden.
  • Surrounding the fire pit with plenty of blankets and cushions for when the sun goes down.
  • Draping festoon lights across the patio
  • Dusting down the garden games. Always fun especially when drunk!
  • Supplying plenty of marshmallows and digestives to roast over the firepit. YUM!
  • Firing up the BBQ (and allowing someone more responsible than myself to take charge ha!)
  • Inevitably providing a shed load of food and drink.

I’ll be sure to share plenty of pictures with you when the time comes. We can’t wait!

Every year since I was little we’ve gone to Pembrokeshire with our lovely family friends. During this time we have made the best memories but my highlight each year is to BBQ on the beach. We pile everything in bags and make the walk down to Caerfai beach. In the last four years the group has started to grow when Gemma (the oldest of the sisters) bought Archie and Theo into the world. It is the best!! Seeing them enjoy what we we grew up doing in the very same cottage is so special.

I hope I’ve inspired you a little to enjoy the simplicity of Hygge in summer. This is the perfect time to make lots of special memories so go and make the most of this glorious weather, fire up the BBQ and grab yourself a chilled (alcoholic) drink.

Happy happy Sunday!

May Wishlist

And just like that it’s May. It seems like only two weeks ago that I shared my April Wishlist. However, of course the list gets longer every month so I have plenty of Spring/Summer gems (literally) to share with you; from both well known brands, and a smaller independent company that deserves to be shared far and wide.

So yes, the shopping addiction is still real!!

First stop, with holidays and weekends away fast approaching I have decided that i’d like a good quality passport cover that I can personalise; along with a matching leather luggage label, both from the rather lovely Aspinal of London. These would also make lovely gift ideas especially with that personal touch.

Next on the list are these Boho pair of sandals. I recently found several pairs of sandals in the back of my wardrobe from the last few summers so i’m pretty well stocked for my holiday, however these will just top off my collection, and a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes right!?

Now for the accessories. I came across this gorgeous brand some years ago since the lovely Tara from ‘Tara Osborne Jewellery’ is the girlfriend of a family friend. I have always had my eye on her bracelets and necklaces but have never been big on accessorising. However, this year i’ve decided i’d like some good quality, go to jewellery that I can wear every day. I particularly love the products below for this summer. These colours with a tan!! Sold!

Next I need to up my pyjama game. I love pretty nightwear and until last Christmas when I treated my self to some Joules PJ bottoms i’d never really bothered to get quality pyjamas. It’s life changing stuff let me tell you. I’m joking it’s really not but it makes going to bed so comfy and cosy. God i’ve lost the plot, i’m just trying to justify it. I digress.. but these beauties from Next will be arriving in my cupboard very soon.

Finally, these shorts have been on my ‘to buy’ list for a little while now to add to my Spring/Summer wardrobe. I think they’ll be a great staple item to wear with a t-shirt or knitwear paired with some sandals or perhaps something a little smarter if you wanted to dress them up.

So there it is, this months wish list. Wishing you all a very Happy Sunday and an even happier shopping spree.

Dreaming of Summer

22 degrees I hear you say? That’s right, and the country are already losing their minds (me included). So as I sit on my sun lounger, pimms in hand with a coat, shades and wellies on, I eagerly await the arrival of this much anticipated sun!

All the excitement has got me thinking about my Spring/Summer wardrobe that I’m part way through clearing out and replenishing, where I would like to visit on the few sunny days we will be blessed with this year and what books I would like to get stuck into. I’m usually awful for reading but whenever we get good weather I love nothing more than chilling in the sun for a few hours and getting lost in a book.

Wardrobe Essentials

There seems to be a clear pattern forming in everything that I’ve saved into my wishlist; So I can see my wardrobe being predominately filled with Navy and White with the odd pop of colour. You just can’t beat these classic colours with a tan though.

Navy Bermuda Shorts

Oversized shirts

Navy Wrap dress

Straw Bag (This summers instagram cliche)

Crazy high jute wedges which are too cool!

White embroidered dress

Yellow embroidered top

Bright earrings

Colourful and comfortable sandals (nothing worse than having to curl your toes to keep on a shoe ha!)

Places to visit (U.K based)

  • Stow-on-the-Wold – A small Cotswold market town in the heart of Gloucestershire. My main reason for wanting to visit Stow is not only for the very pretty and instagrammable photographs I’ll get, but I’ve recently discovered a little independent shop through the power of instagram called ‘Meggies’ (@shopmeggies). She sells the most gorgeous little pieces, so I can’t see it benefitting my bank account in any way. Nevertheless it’s a good enough reason for me to go.

  • Blenheim Palace (Oxfordshire) – Yep that’s right I’ve never been. No I don’t live under a rock. Every single Christmas I mean to book tickets to there light show but never get round to it or just completely run out of time, however, it looks amazing all year round and I’m just desperate for a mooch and to explore the gorgeous grounds.
  • Neverland – Fulham Beach – I went to Neverland a few times last year and definitely plan on going again. I loved the atmosphere and how chilled it was. There are several street food stands, two bars and live DJ’s. If the weather is nice it’s a perfect hangout with a big group of friends.

  • Midnight Apothecary (Campfire cocktails in the city) – Relax around a fire pit, indulge in their cocktails infused with ingredients grown in the garden or foraged nearby, cuddle up and watch the sun set over the river and toast marshmallows over the fire. Urm this sounds like Hygge at it’s best!!

Book Recommendations

Finally, I have had all three of the books below recommended to me by friends and have also seen them recommended on instagram. I have to read something gripping or something that I can relate to in some way otherwise I completely lose interest and apparently these books do just that.

  • The Girl Before by JP Delaney

  • The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

  • The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

I’m not sure if i’ve written that list to benefit myself or you guys.

Anyway, enjoy and make the most of the weather! I will be doing very little other than working in an office (yay great timing sun) but making the most of OUTDOOR after work drinks with the girls.

Happy Sunday!
